Pre mnohých bratislavčanov je miesto, kde dnes stojí Istropolis, plné nostalgických spomienok. Pôvodne tu fungovalo Centrálne trhovisko, ktoré svoju tradíciu založilo na historickom dobytčom trhu. Zámerom projektu bolo vytvoriť nový mestský priestor, otvoriť sa smerom do centra a tým zdôrazniť majestátnosť architektúry Domu Revolučného odborového hnutia ROH. Projekt sa prispôsoboval meniacim sa požiadavkám investora, ale aj výrazným urbanistickým zmenám v jeho okolí. Stavba Novej Tržnice, v 70. rokoch, oproti Domu ROH zatienila pôvodný zámer architektov a preto sa projekt menil aj v priebehu výstavby. Dnes slúži ako kongresovo-kultúrne centrum. Názov sa zmenil tesne po revolúcii na Istropolis, čo v preklade znamená Mesto Dunaja.

For many residents of Bratislava is the place where is standing Istropolis full of nostalgic memories. Originally there was Central market, which has its tradition based on historic cattle market. The aim of the project was to create a new urban space, open towards to city center and to emphasize the majesty of architecture of teh House of the Revolutionary trade union movement (in slovak) ROH. The project was adapted to the changing needs of investor, but also to significant urban changes in its surrounding. Construction of the New Market in the 70s, overshadowed the original intent of the architects. Therefore the project has changed during construction. Today it served as congress and cultural center. The name was changed shortly after the revolution on Istroplis, which means the Danube city.
