Vojenská ubytovňa Hviezda patrí medzi architektonické dominanty Bratislavy. Dnes sa jej nehovorí inak než Kukurica. Je to vďaka jej kruhovému pôdorysu a balkónom pripomínajúcim jednotlivé kukuričné zrná. Budova bola svojho času najvyššou stavbou kruhového pôdorys v Európe. Svoje prvenstvo si však neudržala príliš dlho. Výstavba objektu bola sprevádzaná viacerými úskaliami, najmä v počiatočnej fáze. Prvá sonda navŕtaná do podložia narazila na telá vojakov, ktorí na tomto mieste padli počas vojny. Čakalo sa ďaľšie dva mesiace kým bolo možné vo výstavbe pokračovať. Ani s druhou sondou to nebolo jednoduchšie. Vrt narazil na naftu, ale počiatočná radosť z objavu sa stratila po zistení, že ide len o zabudnutú nádrž po bývalej benzínovej pumpe.

The Military hostel Star is one of the architectural landmarks of Bratislava. Today it isn't called other than Corn. It is because of its circular floor plan and balkoons which reminiscent corn grains. On its time the building was the talles building of the circular floor plan in Europe, but its leadership wasn't kept too long. Construction of the building was accompained by many problems, especially in the initial phase. The firts borehole found and hits the bodies of soldiers, who fell here during the war. Work has stopped for two months due to the investigation. Even with the second borehole, it wasn't easier. They found diesel, but the initial joy of discovery is lost after finding that it is only a forgotten tank of the former gas station.
