Dnes už zrekonštruovaný Starý most je prvým stabilným mostom, ktorý spojil dvojbrehú Bratislavu. Starý most ako ho dnes poznáme je už tretím v poradí. Pôvodný názov most Františka Jozefa sa naprieč jeho minulosťou zmenil na Štefánikov a neskôr na most Červenej armády. Napriek svojmu názvu je dnes najnovším bratislavským mostom. V roku 1956, v dôsledku dlhotrvajúcich mrazov, zamrzla hladina Dunaja. Vytvorila sa vrstva ľadu hrubá až 1,8m. Ľad bránil odtoku vody a ohrozoval konštrukciu jediného bratislavského mosta. Keď voda vystúpila do výšky 912 cm, bolo nutné uvoľniť ľadové kryhy a preto mesto odsúhlasilo letecké bombardovanie Dunaja.

Already reconstructed Old bridge is the first stable bridge which connects two sides of Bratislava. The Old bridge as we know it today is the third construction in the order. The original name was the Bridge of František Jozef. The name of bridge was changing across the past on Štefánik's bridge and later bridge of the Red Army. Despite of the name, its the newest bridge in Bratislava. In 1956, due to the protracted frosts, froze the river level of the Danube. It created a layer of ice thick up to 1,8 meters. Ice obstructed river outfall and menaced  construction of the only bridge across the Danube. Whent the river lever went up to hight 912 centimeters, it was necessary to release the ice floes. The city decided to bombard the Danube.
